Safety Leadership

You can't write your way to a safe workplace. It comes down to how people lead and back each other every day. We build the safety leadership that holds across your teams and contractors, so safe work becomes the way things are done, not just what the policy says.

Program Outcomes:

Suitable for
  • Individuals working as developing and emerging leaders and managers within their organisation
  • Individuals responsible for their own performance, whilst also providing leadership guidance and support for others. They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their teams

Create, interdependent safety behaviour across multi functional and contractor teams.

Safety and productivity are the highest priority items for managers and frontline leaders in mining across Australia. Whilst a lot of organisations excel at creating safe behaviours across internal project teams, those same behaviours and relationships are hard to extend across multi-functional and contracting teams – especially during high intensity times such as shutdowns and planned outages.

Front line teams need the tools and strategies to be able to promote greater interdependent team safety behaviours and advance performance regardless of the team composition and other external factors.

The Step Up Together program is designed to provide frontline teams with the tools and skills they need to create a high safety and performance driven culture when partnering on site – so that a one team approach to both safety and performance is prioritised.

Real Outcomes.
Measurable Organisational Impact.

As a leader, navigating this kind of uncertainty and change can seem impossible. You don’t know where the next few weeks or even days are going to take you, and on top of that, your team is looking to you for the stability and direction that you may not be able to provide.

Why This Approach Stands Above the Rest

What They Say About Us

We’ve been really pleased with our experience with MODAL – their consultants are highly capable professionals who seek to understand their client’s needs then design and facilitate the process required to successfully meet those needs.
― Shane

Our organisation has been focused on developing a “one team” culture and have seen real value in partnering with MODAL on this, especially with the work they have done with the Executive Team as we move towards High Performance. What I have liked about their approach has been the ability to engage all members of the Executive team. In doing so the trust, cooperation and performance of the team has grown rapidly.
― Mark Newman
CEO, City of Mandurah
MODAL are a great company to work with. They deliver on what they say they are going to do and they are prepared to go above and beyond

CCF WA has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with MODAL in delivering mentoring programs that support women working in the civil construction industry. MODAL's mentoring program has had a meaningful impact on both mentees and mentors. Mentees have developed greater confidence, leadership capability, communication skills, and the resilience needed to progress their careers within the civil construction industry. Mentors have strengthened their own leadership and coaching skills while contributing to the development of future industry leaders.

Got a question? We will answer it.

Everything you need to know before enrolling in our courses.

No. It’s leadership work aimed at safety behaviour, so it sits alongside your existing safety training rather than replacing it. We work on how leaders set expectations, how crews speak up, and what happens between your people and your contractors.

Most safety issues that reach an incident were visible to someone earlier who didn’t raise them. The work targets that gap: psychological safety, how leaders respond when something is flagged, and whether people at the front believe it’s worth speaking up.

Yes, and that’s usually where it matters most. Safety behaviour tends to break down at the boundary between your people and everyone else on site, so we work across both rather than only inside your headcount.

Transport, mining, utilities and local government, including work with Transdev, Metso and Western Power. Our consultants have worked in operational environments, so the examples come from real sites.

We agree the measures with you at the start, usually a mix of what you already track and a culture measure taken before and after. With Transdev, workers’ compensation costs fell and safety improved over the two years of the work.
